According to him, racial unity can be fostered among the new generation by simply placing pupils of all races in one class so that they can interact freely with one another. In my opinion, this line of thinking is both naive and dishonest.
Following Dr Mahathir Mohamad's pontificating to the world that to tackle Islamist terrorism we must remove its root causes, I suggest that Malaysians, notably those who subscribe to the same way of thinking as Dr Chris Anthony's, make the effort to identify the root cause of our disunity and remove it. Let us not resort to populist but hollow solutions in which the status quo would want us to believe. In fact, I think most Malaysians already know what the problem is this: the unequal treatment of Malaysians based on race which is the most fundamental reason for our disunity. I am not talking about everyday racism plaguing most multiracial societies. I am talking about institutionalised racism enshrined in our constitution which is amplified and enforced by the government. How can we unite when we are formally partitioned into groups which have different sets of rights? How can we unite when we are constantly being reminded by the government through various application forms that we are either Malay, Chinese, Indians and others, but never Malaysians? How can we gel into a single entity when our ID cards explicitly say whether we are Muslims (and hence bumiputera) or not? How can we achieve unity when our top politicians wield weapons in general assemblies to threaten the minorities just so they can score quick political points? How can we unite when pro-government politicians hurl racial abuses in parliament and get away scot-free? How can we tell our children to look beyond race, when one day we have to drag them back to reality by telling them that their race comes into account for scholarship applications and university admissions? Instead of viewing the popularity of vernacular schools as a cause, we should view it as a symptom of disunity. I believe many parents send their children to vernacular schools as a sub-conscious protest against a system that perceivably favours one race over the others. As second-class citizens, preserving their cultural identities allows them to feel that all is not lost.
Even if vernacular schools are closed, our disunity will only manifest itself in other forms. Let any non-Malay Malaysian choose exclusively between the preservation of his mother tongue and equal treatment - I am sure the latter will get the overwhelming vote. A proof of this is the many Malaysians who have migrated to Western countries - do we see them insisting on letting their children study their respective mother tongues in school? Hence, my accusations of dishonesty towards those who prefer to throw baseless accusations at vernacular schools because it is easy and risk-free, but, due to fear of reprisals, dare not point the finger at the status quo although they are inherently guilty. Furthermore, those who blame vernacular schools but not government sponsored Mara junior colleges and universities are pure hypocrites. At least vernacular schools admit students based on merit alone. We all know that MRSMs and UiTM actively practise race-based selection policies. Why do you not propose closing down MRSMs and UiTM in your suggested revamp of the education system, Dr Chris Anthony? Do not forget that currently in national schools, we do have non-Malay students. I have had the honour of befriending some of them during my university years, and I must say that in university, they too stick with their own kind although they can't speak their own mother tongue. In a system that promotes the proliferation of only one culture and shuns the others, it is only human nature to confide more in those who are categorised in the same racial group. Therefore, it is absolutely naive to think that racial unity can be achieved by merely putting our children under one roof without ultimately treating them equally. Furthermore, we have witnessed the increasing Islamisation in our national schools which have multiracial students. Hence, contrary to the belief of Dr Chris Anthony, cultural diversity and subsequently unity will not necessarily exist in national schools because they are being used by the government as instruments to carry out their political agenda. Every year, we see many vernacular schools achieve record-breaking performances in major exams. This shows that at least academically, these schools have done something right, and are a valuable source of knowledge for us in the pursuit of improving the standing of national schools. Certainly, closing down vernacular schools is an option, but not only this does not improve unity, the country will lose a valuable asset. Don't get me wrong, I am all for racial unity. But please, shift your attention to the fundamental cause of disunity. You are simply barking up the wrong tree when you blame the present education system alone.

- an interesting post in Malaysiakini.com

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!

Next...

A letter by Abdul Hadi Ali:

"First of all, we must understand that Malaysia or ‘Malayland’ is where the Malay language shall be spoken. Other languages such as Mandarin and Tamil shall have their places in China and India respectively. I believe the Malaysian government has been very tolerant and gives much leeway to the language issue. There is no place in the world, except for Israel and Singapore that the bumiputera totally lost out on language and land. I think the Malays should not be tolerant to this issue. All other languages shall not be allowed to be taught in this land except for the learning of the language, not as a medium of instruction. Actually, it is very sad that the Malays have lost their land, culture and language in ‘Singapura’ - the centre of Malay land and culture. Today the Malay in ‘Singapura’ has been marginalised and the Malay language has lost its function. All of you, Chinese and Indians, please respect that Malaysia is Malay land, therefore Malay culture and language shall be used. "

A word for you, Mr. Abdul Hadi: FUCK _1_

Malaysia != (not equivalent to) Malayland

Studying overseas, I'm proud to proclaim myself as a Malaysian Chinese who speaks Malay, Mandarin, English and other dialects. I pity those poor Indon Chinese kids who doesn't even have Chinese names nor knows how to speak Mandarin. The identity of Malaysia is not build upon Malay culture only, but instead the cultures of Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan, Dusun...etc etc...

The day Malaysia is totally 'Malay-ed' is the day it falls...

BAK GUA

Hmmm...what is bak gua?

Its honey-roasted pork...yummy...

It's also something a certain sex like to do...

And sad to say...its spreading to the other sex too...

The teachings of 'bak gua'? Each time I passes by our employee entrance, I'd see that bunch of posters on display at the corridor. Lots of them ... complete with graphics and all that. I must have walked past those heaps of posters for at least a few dozen times, but I never actually took a glance at it. I just knew that it's about AIDS (from the red ribbon).

Yesterday, while waiting for my colleagues during lunchhour, I sauntered over to the bunch of displays and took some time to read those stuffs up (instead of ogling at girls). Well, to my surprise, it's actually kinda cool. I figured out those posters are actually in Bee Em ! Bahasa Melayu !

And I was baffled at the ke-canggih-ness of the Bee Em on those posters. The messages, they're so professionally written. But then after studying it for a while, I began to wonder. These messages ... who are the intended audiences ? Well generally, to the public ... of course. But those that are exposed to the risks of AIDS, are mostly people who adopts whoring as their favourite past time... gay dudes who gets impaled frequently by schlongs... drug addicts ... basically, those who's not very bright academically.

If you get my drift, you would have realized that mostly these people, they're in no position to understand the messages on these posters at all. Words like "zakar", "sel" or perhaps "keimunan" - they're simply too complex for them to understand. Like, how could you expect primary school dropouts & uneducated junkies to understand such canggih words ? What's a "faraj" ? I have a friend named Fardan ler... could Faraj be his brother ? So on.
They'll probably go through a couple of lines, then walk the fuck off. That means, those awareness campaign posters would be good for nothing.

So ..that prompted me to ask... what could be a more effective way to convey these informative messages to those that in need of the knowledge ? The answer is - Bahasa Pasar. Colloquial language and slangs. The junkies and ass fuckers knew it like the back of their hands. That's their spoken language and primary form of communication. Like... what could be better than to communicate with them in their own language ?

I was thinking, if the government could hand out free condoms and needles for these people ... why can't they print posters with Bahasa Pasar messages to suit their needs ? Here's an example how it could have been done ...

~~~~~~
Woi ! Pukimak lu orang ! Tau ka apa tu AIDS ?? Tak tau kalu... dengar. Sudah tau kalu, main jauh-jauh... GEDEBUSHHHH
Ni AIDS ... bukan nama awek. Tapi sejenis penyakit cilakak tarak ubat mia. Dia masuk sama lu punya badan, kasi itu power lingkup... and bikin lu mia badan tarak defend. Tarak defend kalu ... maknanya ... kamu kena apa-apa pukimak mia sakit, pun tak boleh sembuh lar tu.
Since ini AIDS tarak ubat, apa yang you orang boleh bikin, ialah control you punya kelakuan ler... Kata orang, ini penyakit moral... So kat sini, nak bagi kau orang tau sikit, apa macam ini AIDS merebak. Penyakit kaliampun ni, merebak melalui 3 cara:
1) Kongkek tarak betuihAIDS boleh merebak melalui itu cheebye mia kuah ... masuk sama lu mia luncheow. Kalau you tak pasti sama you mia markah bersih ka tarak, lebih baik jangan syiok-syiok kongkek. Itu ayam-ayam, bohsia-bohsia, binatang-binatang, jembalang-jembalang ataupun you mia pondan mia markah... lebih baik jangan kacau. Kalau tak leh tahan, kongkek guna kondom. Kalau tarak kondom... guna beg plastik hitam tong sampah ... ataupun guna belon pun boleh gak. Tapi kalau yang itu pun tarak, lebih baik suruh you mia partner hisap... ataupun goncang sendiri dalam tandas ... (ingat, jangan hisap dekat Singapura !)
2)Darah transferItu darah transfer pun boleh kena AIDS. Tarak peduli sama ada you mia makwe gigit kotek you luka dan sembur darah masuk ke ... atau pun you kongsi cucuk jarum sama itu hisap dadah mia orang ke ... semua pun boleh kena. Kalau you cucuk jarum dadah, you mesti mau ingat guna itu baru punya jarum. (adalah lebih baik jangan hisap dadah...). Kalau makwe cuba nak gigit, terajang & sepak sama dia sampai gigi patah.
3) Bini bunting, anak kenaHaa.. bila you keluar kongkek sama ayam, balik rumah kongkek bini ... bini bunting... lu mia anak pun akan kena jugak (bini pun kena sekali... jahanam keluarga). You sama bini bungkus cukuplah, tapi apasai mau kasi you mia anak susah ? Ni kera pun tak bikin ini macam sama dia mia family. Kalau sudah kongkek sama ayam, adalah lebih baik kamu pegi check sama you mia doktor sebelum kongkek - sama ada you kena AIDS ke tidak. Ataupun, you boleh guna itu bukak durian mia pisau... dan penggal kepala hotak hang (niiii gerenti bini tak kena).
tapi, engkorang semua toksah panik... AIDS ni, tidak merebak melalui air liur. You boleh cium/jilat sama you mia bini ataupun makwe, it's ok. AIDS juga tidak boleh merebak melalui sentuhan. Maknanya, you boleh raba sama apa-apa makhluk yang kamu stim, steady mia... (tapi mesti ingat, kena tanya dulu, takut masuk lokap). Dan akhir sekali, AIDS juga tidak boleh rebak melalui you mia air kencing ataupun taik. You boleh bau atau main sama depa ... gerenti selamat.
Sekian.
~~~~~~

I guess I wasn't that good in my Bahasa Pasar either. Perhaps someone can come up with an even more awesome version of it. But hey, what the fuck, as long as the message gets across. It's all for the good of the people.

(kudos again to Micheal)

An interesting post that catches my eyes

CRAPS WE LEARNT

Top 5 crappiest subjects that are being taught in school :
1) Pendidikan Moral.
Supposedly, this subject is to educate our youngs about how not to be assholes - turned out to be quite contrary. More often than not, moral values are being taught at home by our parents with a cane or a baseball bat. But as we grow up to school, we're being taught with something that conflicted what we have learnt and some even to the extend of betraying our own conscience. There's just too many examples to quote but here's one that I remembered :

Q: You're cruising very slowly across a rural housing area. Suddenly a pregnant lady leaps out of nowhere and fainted right in front of your car. Because you have one hell of a kickass car with ABS, you managed to brake in time. Some farmers saw the incident and misunderstood that you actually hit the pregnant lady - but you know you're innocent. The pregnant lady still lay unconscious on the road and you can see droves of farmers came running out with pitchforks and bigass sticks... what would you do ?
a) Try to explain to farmers and convince them it's not your fault
b) Try to convince farmers to help pregnant lady first and you'll explain everything later.
c) Ignore farmers and help pregnant lady (submit to fate of what those farmers are gonna do to your ass)
d) Floor accelerator and flee to the nearest police station.

Because I'm nice, I got the answer wrong. You figure the answer.

2) Bahasa Klasik
This is the most ridiculous subject we've to learn at school. I'm not too sure if it's still being taught in the schools today but, hell, it was definitely a total turn off back a decade and a half ago. I still couldn't figure out how this Bahasa Klasik knowledge fits in our everyday life but to make one sound like a total fucked up person. I mean, sure enough, we learn about in's & out's of languages to communicate and all that but this ... is hardly useful at all. Like, have you ever communicated in Bahasa Klasik anywhere in the public today ? You'd be fucked up if you did.
Here's an example of asking a girl out using Bahasa Klasik :
"Oh adinda yang kiut-miut bagaikan mutiara di Laut Cina Selatan, sudikah anda bersantap bersama kakanda di Terima Kasih Kepada Tuhan Kerana Hari Ini Jumaat ?"

If the example above sounded ridiculous to you, then yes, it's supposed to be like that. If you somehow managed to decipher what I'm trying to say up there, well, that means I'm not very good at Bahasa Klasik. It's basically full of confusion and blurness of the flowery way of saying things. How I loathed Bahasa Klasik. Ptuiiii !!

3) Pendidikan Seni
That bluntly translates as Art Education. We're suppose to learn about arts. But we didn't. Well, at least up to Standard 6 anyway. What I remembered was, we're being given an odd title - like "an old building" or "a crippled dog boning a cat" - and then we'll be asked to submit our work the next day or face the wrath of the psychotic art teacher.
Man... does that sound like 'education' to you ? Fuck no. Did we learn about historically significant paintings the world has ever known and how it was produced ? Fuck no. Did we learn about reflections and refractions and colours and how natural objects emits radiation in reality ? FUCK NO. What did we learn ? How to siphon marks off to be academically competent. That's smart.

4) Pendidikan Jasmani
That's our PE. Physical Exercise. Like Art Education, this is hardly any education at all. Though I liked this PE thing a lot, but it ain't doing us any good academically. Nor did it serve any purpose of enhancing our understanding of getting healthy and staying fit. What did we do ? Well, the teacher would give us a ball and we were asked to play ourselves (NOOOOO you dirty minded fucks... it's the ball game... ). Something which we've already known how and in that fact, very well. Why educate us something we already know ?
When the time comes for us to get certified, the teacher would just ask us to perform a couple round of runs, bench presses and sit ups to grade our fitness. And that's about it. (that reminded me of my friend who actually farted when he attempted to perform a sit up maneuver, almost got all of us killed when his flatulence gassed the entire volleyball court)
Pendidikan Jasmani. It's a bunch of crap if you were to ask me. The time could have been used to learn something more useful like how to ride a bike properly on the road ... or how to skin a live chicken... whichever applies.

5) Pendidikan Muzik
That's the name of our music class goddamn it. In our primary years, it's a compulsory subject. No we do not get to learn how to play musical instruments or how to read those bean sprout hieroglyphics ... but to snap our fingers and sing along to those gaudy tunes with that ratfink teacher with cauliflower hairstyle. I can remember one or two of those gay songs (fuck, it's imbued in my brain... thanks to those fags)

Susu dan jagung, kacang dan lengkong, air gula berwarrrrnaaa... [snap fingers]...

That's so fucked up man. Little did they know that I'm already able to recite the full length of some Bee Gees or even 911 tune at that age. What an insult. I wonder why can't they teach us how to play musical instruments instead ? What's with all those singing nonsense ? For your information of how bad it is, one of my classmates actually turned into a transvestite. God knows how many more turned gay. I'm thankful that I'm straight with a healthy length.
So there you have it. Some seriously flawed subjects. I'm not sure if this is about my school or is this a whole nation thing. If I were to be put charge on these whole education matter, I would have emphasized on following areas:

1) languages (English, BeeEm) - to communicate & pave way for learning more stuffs. There's once I ordered in English to a KFC staff "no wings and drumstick"... and she thought I was trying to ask her telephone number. We've got some really serious illiterates out there who can't even communicate in plain English...

2) mathematics - foundation for the sciences. Essential for everyday life, nuff said.

3) sciences - biology, physics and chemistry. The key foundation to improve life. Without engineering and sciences, we'll still be wearing furs and hunt animals for food.

4) geography - that's important too. I've seen a video clip of some dimwits pointing to Australia when being asked where North Korea is. This is not good. You've got to know the planet you live on. And yeah, it'll serve Sarawak some justice. We live on trees? Oh puleeaassseee. We have more Merce owners than you Semenanjung freaks.

5) logic - my self invented subject. Something to teach the children about logic. Like how not to upset a dog when you're defenseless. How not to disrespect your mom when she's holding a cane. How not to burn things when there are explosives around. Things like that.

And I wonder, why didn't they teach our children about traffic rules at younger age ? What's the use of education if they can't even drive/ride safely past the productive age of post adolescence ? *shakes head*

(kudos to my fren Mike)

U've guessed

Since this blog is no longer active...I'm a bit...er...sad to just delete it and discard it into the cyberworld oblivion. Just to reiterate, I have my own strong principles in life that I hold on to. Err...if I have freaked out anyone, sorry ar. The experiences described in my entries are personal experiences that I feel lucky to go through. Through all this, I believe I will grow even more, even though the things I have gone through may be 'dangerous' in the world's eyes. For example, the reason I don't smoke is partly of my family education, and partly because I have tried and dislike it alot. So no worries...Peter is still here to stay...whether u like it or not. I wish to reiterate here that the intention of my blog is as a tool to keep contact with my best friends Paul, Elvin, Derek as well as a select few trustworthy friends whom I have trouble getting in touch with. That blog is my attempt in trying to let them (after much persuasion) to indulge into my complex world in trying to understand me. If I have not personally authorized you to view my blog, you are not in my inner circle, sorry. What you guys have done have hurt me deeply. And the ones who spread this blog (you know who you are), I hope I can find the strength to forgive you people. I've said before that this is my story, and I will have it go on my way. I have my own stand in my life that I abide to. For those of you who genuinely care, thanks. For those of you who treat this as an entertainment, may God bless you. I admit it is my fault that I have not thought of putting on a password or something since during the creation of my blog back then, I'm new to this kinda thingy. I'm sorry everyone. To those whom I have offended through my blog, I only have one thing to say: "I'm sorry." In my whole lifetime, there is only one person I had disliked since young (am still in the process of forgiving and tolerating him, God help me), and I don't wish to add another into my list. I like all of you and hope you guys will not make me lose my trust for you ppl. Just another thing to make you understand me better: I'm typing this in a pissed mode, so if I sound rough, I'm sorry. And for those anonymous chickens who dare not identify yourselves while dropping your comments, I look down upon you. You have betrayed your own honour. I don't need any smart-alecky-comments from some unidentified smartasses.

And oh to Julia, the I-don't-know-who-you-are who constantly dropped me insightful comments, I respect you. At least you have the integrity to at least put your identity (even though it may be false). I have no interest to know who you really are, but I really treasure your presence in my blog. Drop me a mail at hatalaguna86@yahoo.com so that I can mail to you my new blog address (if you don't mind continue reading).

To u-know-who-you-are:
I’m really sorry if you managed to read some part of this personal blog. I know it will affect you in some ways. I just want to say that I never take into consideration that there exist the possiblility that you will chance upon my blog. My bad. My inexperience in the blogging world. I’m really sorry if my blog has affected our friendship or even your thoughts. The damage might have been done, but I will try my best to repair it. I just want to say that I treasure you a lot, and I don’t want harm in any form to befall you. I’m sorry.
